Jack Price (1928-2016)
In 2016, we were greatly saddened by the passing of Jack Price (z”l), one of our major benefactors, and a very modest, kind and dear man. The son of an immigrant father, Jack, together with his brother Samuel, grew up to play a substantial role in Florida’s real-estate development, particularly the building of Holiday Inn resorts and, through his great philanthropic efforts, to make a strong impact on the development of Jewish education and community life in Florida. Samuel Price (1926-2021)
In 2021, we also lost Samuel Price (ז״ל), a major benefactor, and a truly lovely man. We share here two interviews recorded with him: the first in 2015 in which he recounted his war experiences, and the second in 2017, together with his sons, Ira and Charles. In the 2017 interview he recalled wonderful memories of life growing up in Jacksonville in the 1930s; his experiences serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII; his post-war career in real estate development, and his lifelong passion for traveling around the world. He also imparted warm and humorous family stories and provided insights into Jewish community life in Jacksonville. We are so grateful for having had the opportunity to know him, and for the many delightful and informative conversations we shared. The ongoing support that he and Jack gave to the Price Library engendered a world-class collection of which they could be justly proud. Both brothers are greatly missed.
